Family Style Finds

On the last Friday of each month I’d like to share the interesting bits I found on the web.  These are some of the things that caught my eye over the last few weeks.

Free things to do in Melbourne

I think this list from Why Go Australia pretty much nails it.  The kids might not be so interested in the lanes and window shopping, but everything else is great family fun.

7 kid friendly picnic ideas

Relaxing with a family picnic is a fantastic way to enjoy your surroundings, new or old.  Zen Family Habits is known for it’s simple, practical tips and these are no different.

7 ideas for screen-free travel with kids

I can vouch that all these ideas from this post on Simple Mom work better than a DVD player.  One idea I hadn’t thought of was to tell family stories.  What a lovely, quality way to spend travel time.  I would be careful having the kids read books in the car, as it can induce carsickness in those prone to it.

An Australian Alphabet

This review by Playing by the Book is of a wonderful Australian book called Possum & Wattle – My Big Book of Australian Words.  I love that the book focuses on real words rather than the colloquial slang than no-one uses.  I’m keeping an eye out for this one in the bookshops.

Camping checklist

I’ve just discovered List Bean and, being a bit of a list junkie myself, have fallen in love with it.  This camping list is a bit more comprehensive than my packing list, as we keep a lot of stuff in the caravan ready to go.

Enjoy!

Happy travels,
