Over the weekend the whole family headed down to the Geelong Waterfront.  Not exactly a great family holiday for us, as we live 15km away.  But, I have this thing about appreciating what’s in our own backyard so I like to get the kiddos down there whenever we can.  Added to that, it’s fabulous!  Why not go?  You should, if you’re in town.  Even if you’re not, you should make the effort.  You won’t be disappointed, I promise.

The Buchan Caves are about an hour north of Bairnsdale; a beautiful drive through rolling hills to Bruthen and then bush along Buchan Road. Read more

It’s almost winter in Melbourne and the footy is definitely here.  This weekend our local newspaper, the Geelong Advertiser, was printed in blue and white – the colours of the Geelong Cats (local AFL team).  Why?  Because the Cats played Collingwood (the Magpies), whose colours are … have you guessed?  Black and white.  Can you get any more parochial?

The best way to tap into all that excitement is to take in a game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).  Just walking around the ground is a spectacle.  All manner of supporters dressed in all manner of garb; faces painted, flags waving.  That in itself is enough to entertain young kids for some time.
